Tammy over at Daisy Yellow is hosting {5 days of color} to kick off December, and I thought it would be fun to join. You can see some of the rainbows in my art journal here and especially here, but for today, I am the hostess of black.

When I volunteered to host a color, I told Tammy, “Just put me wherever you need someone,” and as the color hostess slots filled, it worked out that I “chose” black.

I’m not gonna lie, I think it was fate.

I am sort of a huge fan of black. It would never occur to me to say, “Black is my favorite color” — in fact I had to hold back from jumping to choose my most common palette of blue or yellow — but as I look through my art journals, it is pretty obvious that most of my pages don’t feel complete without some nice dark definition from that reliable beauty, Black.

Sometimes it’s just a little smudging that’s needed…

Sometimes the black is text, or a little accent drawing, or even just a quick and simple sketch…

But sometimes… well, sometimes I just can’t help myself, and and I go a little crazy with the black. Rich deep lines, thick and thin, curved and straight. I really love it. And I would probably do this for hours if only my schedule would permit it.

Wait – who am I kidding? I do it for hours anyway.

Love black too? Head over to Daisy Yellow for the linky party of art journalists celebrating black.
