Klipsch RP-160M vs. JBL Studio 530 Speakers Comparison Review

Klipsch RP-160M:
JBL Studio 530 Speakers:

Quick note from my written review of Klipsch RP-160M Speakers.

One thing I would like to mention is if you’re a person who is only listen to Hard Rock or Heavy Metal this speaker is a must, it does really well with all other music but truly shine with rock because Metallica “Enter Sandman” and the whole black album (FLAC 24Bit 96K) and Dire Straits “Brothers In Arms” SACD album sounded so good that I hit the repeat button on my remote control, this is a one solid pair of bookshelf speakers that can really rock the house.

I just need a little more refinement to rate them solid five stars.

I would recommended it to anyone who would really appreciate and enjoy the dynamic realism of close to live music with minimal amount of power, thanks to high sensitivity 95db efficiency of the speakers, just pair them with decent amp they will sing the way, these may do even better with tubes than solid-state amps.

Pros: Design to handle big power, so crank them up without hesitation.
Cons: Can get edgy and bright with some music.

Highs:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Mid-Range: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Bass: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½
Sound Stage:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Price: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Quick note from my written review of JBL Studio 530 Speakers.

Most important thing is “JBL Studio 530s are truly very good all around speakers” to have, this is the kind of speaker that make you enjoy your music, not the kind of speaker that make you want to find better one because you feel like you want more musical experience, I would call them truly music lover speakers. Only down side is they sounded best with my Parasound set up than Denon Receiver, which mean they like the power that can control them.

I only give them 4.5 stars because afore mention congested mid bass and less define bass area with some music, otherwise It would be solid five stars for this much of engaging musical pleasure.

Pros: Sound Quality.
Cons: Nothing Major.

  • FWIW: I'm in shock, honestly.
If anyone knows anything about the speaker biz, that you know how bean counters make engineers cut serious corners to meet a price point. Cheap drivers in a box, 1st order crossover, cheap parts in the crossover. You DO NOT normally start seeing serious effort below a two grand or more.

    Not these.

The crossover has air core inductors and metallized polypropylene caps. Definitely not first order, they engineered the shit out of these. The polyester compression tweeter is better than any titanium or diamond tweeter I have heard at any price. And I've heard a lot. It's closest to scan speak in terms of detail, power and sheer transparency. One of the most articulate and powerful small woofers, ever.

These have dimension, integration and detail that the Klipsch RFP600M absolutely do not. These speakers scale better than klipsch and as well as high end $$$$ monitors.
I have mine with a 15" sub and you'd think they were 4 grand a pair. At $299? They are the greatest performance value ever. Hey, would you like a Porsche carrera for 10 grand? Hell yes!

  • With loudspeakesrs like these, i need dynamics, bass impact and presence, and forward sounding loudspeakers , which balance out well behind a projection screen for home theater duties. For me, that's the klipsch! Better tools for that job

  • What's your opinion of these speakers vs the newer 600m?

  • Hello, do you recommend leaving the bases on the Klipsch or taking them off when on speaker stands?

  • You need to review JBL LSR306PII studio monitors. I am using a pair of these with a Nobsound preamp (Amazon $45.00) , Trond Bluetooth adapter ($18.00), cables etc ($20.00). The speakers themselves I found on eBay for $220 a pair – open box. So I’ve got around $303.00 in the whole thing! And the JBLs are biamplified with a 66 watt amp for the tweeter, ditto for the woofer. Bass extension to 37hz, virtually flat to 43hz, open, spacious, airy, wide sweet spot, I run out of adjectives. Will blow the pairs you reviewed away. Check out some other reviews…😎 Kirby Atkins

  • Great review! Klipsch is coming out with a new and updated version of the Reference Premiere line with an improved Tractrix Horn and real veneer cabinets very soon. How much of an audible improvement to an already good speaker is the question.

  • , this was not a comparison at all. in fact it was rather stupid. just a camera phone looking at a couple of speakers for a few minutes, wtf ?

  • Will the JBL Studio 530 work with McIntosh 1700? (I don't want to damage the Mac 😉

  • Try the Klipsch 5.25 inch driver version, the RP-150M. It will probably sound like the 5.25 JBL. The more bass makes more sense because of the larger driver. The alternative is to use a sub with smaller speakers and that probably gives a nice balance.

  • Any idea about these 3 vs. focal chorus 706 ?? For movie / music 60/40 Thanks

  • I use my Klipsch with a dedicated sub for my desktop pc. The klipsch need s clean source and they will reward with realistic dynamics. They will reveal any harsh recordings or source components.

  • The JBL cost 3 times as much and they are that close. Sounds like a HUGE win for the Klipsch to me and my wallet

  • Never thought I would ever hear someone say Klipsch would play second fiddle with high range to any speaker especially JBL.

  • im on the hunt for bookshelf speakers. can the jbl studio 530s be driven by an amp with 10 watts in pure class a mode and 60 watts in class a/b mode?

  • Tharbamar, or anyone who's willing to respond.. Is Parasound Zpre3 / Zamp V3 is a better option for an amp than the Marantz HD AMP1 for desk use in your opinion? thanks.

  • Wow Klipsch has improved and can be compared to the 530 even. With their efficiency to play loud it's a good option to consider if it's used for movies half of the time. I like my UB5's but not sure if I feel comfortable pushing it hard for movies.
