Answering Your Audio and Video Questions. #AVQA

Subscribe to the new Podcasters’ Roundtable channel
I’ve always enjoyed the feedback I receive in the comments on this channel. One of my goals has always been to answer every question and or comment and to do so as fast as possible. I can’t stand it when I ask a question on YouTube and never get an answer for the creator. But at some point, if the YouTube gets enough subscribers, this can be a really tough challenge. In addition to answering questions in the comments, I want to add a Q&A element to the videos so I’m going to pick through some of the more common questions and answer those here on the channel, in video.

Use #ACQA to submit your questions in the comments of any video, via:

► TWITTER:

► INSTAGRAM: or

► FACEBOOK:

and I will answer some of these in upcoming videos but I will always give you an answer even if it doesn’t make it onto the video.

Thanks again for watching and subscribing. Let’s keep learning audio and video together!

  • On my Canon 6D,  if I select the shutter speed and aperture, and set the ISO setting to Auto,  will the camera adjust automatically the exposure according to changing light conditions during a video recording ?

  • #AVQA I just started a channel reviewing tech gear and I've been struggling with lightning a rather dark but small room in the basement – no natural light. I have 3 softboxes, a standing lamp (I borrowed from the living room) and a ceiling light fixture and still struggle. What am I doing wrong?

  • when you do the 180 degree rule for shooting video, lets say you shoot during the middle of the day and then at night. if shooting at 24fps for both times of day, would i still follow the rule and shoot 1/50th shutter speed at both day and night time, or would this need to be adjusted at night to let more light in (but wouldn't that cause motion blur)? Do I leave the shutter speed alone and just play with aperture and ISO?

  • Thank you for the QA. I have a Shure SM7B mic which is very quiet with my audio interface and produces a lot of hiss. I can't decide between the Fethead ($90) and the DBX 286s which is as twice as much but has more features like gate and compression. Should I just get the Fethead and upgrade later when I need the extras?

  • 7d m2 used vs 80D?
I will shoot videos also but I want speed and durabity very much too.
Is the 80D weather sealed or resistant? How would you compare it's body and AF with 7d m2?

  • #AVQA atomos ninja 2 speeds for unloading data is amazing. 320MB/s with my SSDs, compared to 80-85MB/s on a good cards. Many should consider using SD-cards as backup-only media and have SSDs as the primary media for important shoots. (Wait this was not a question…. err "Have you tried it?")

  • First off I totally unsubscribed to this channel on this video… when attempting to scroll down on my iPhone! Argh 😉 so some sub/unsub stats are just clumsy finger noise. But yeah, I think splitting it into different channels is a good idea. While generally it is a good idea to not split into too many channels the round table is a completely different kind of voice. I enjoy your solo productions more than the round table for sure.

  • Perhaps you could pull out segments of the Podcasters roundtable and post a short very specific topic to cover in a video. Sometimes I find the title of the roundtable videos interesting but don't want to sit through an hour of it.
