Ableton Live 9 For Beginners Level 1 Tutorial – Audio Setup

This is lesson 2 – Setting up your Sound card

Over the next 18 videos we will taking you through the key areas of Ableton Live’s latest release Live 9.

This is the beginner Level 1 course where we first get to grips with the software – Level 2 will follow on the site shortly after and will continue on from where this course ends.

First up though we will be taking a look at the main features of the software from its user interface to the differences between the Session & Arrangement views.

We will then look at creating everything esstential to making a full track from drums, percussion, lead synth and bassline. Finally we complete this introductory course by doing an arrangement of our song and show you how to export the file making it ready to convert to MP3 or burn to CD.

Watch this course on the site now as part of the Sonic Academy Subscription

  • Hard to focus on the video, when the audio is full of dry mouth noises, because you didn't hydrate yourself, before recording. Honestly, it is starting to turn my stomach, a bit. Wish I could have finished the video, but I am going to stop, here. If you want to sound professional, drink some water, prior to recording. Seriously.

  • I bought a new computer and was probably unwise and did leave onboard sound card and now I have to use Asio4all, but if I want to hear win app sound, I have to switch driver, pretty sucks. If I am gonna buy external sound card will it solve the problem of manual switching drivers (and actually quite high sample rate 500 with 12 ms latency.)

  • Hi. I record heavy metal stuff on the Ableton. Id like to know how to make diffrente beat pattern structures, I mean, I want some compass to be 7/8 then 10/8 to have the metronome on that beat structure, how to do that?

  • It was all going so well…until I installed the Asio drivers. Now all i get is a constant, really annoying sound coming out of my headphones and when i go to play a sample (as done in the video) nothing comes out. Any ideas what wrong? I have uninstalled asio and still the same constant sound coming out….the video makes it sound so simple! Ps. I am using a laptop, windows 8. Thanks
